I almost beat up a homeless man
Disclaimer: Before you place judgment, remember that not all of the detail is out yet.
I was crossing the intersection of Yonge and College (Downtown Toronto) yesterday, and some friendly dude approached me in the middle of the intersection. He said, “How’re you doing brother; can you spare a quarter?” I said, “Sorry man, I don’t have any change.” He then said, “Just one quarter,” and started blocking me while he put his hand on my shoulder. That’s what pissed me off! You can Campaign for quarters all you want, but putting your hands on anyone is crossing the line, and this guy looked a hot piping mess too; by the way, his breath was a perfect combination of Tim Horton’s coffee, ass, beer and sardines.
I can’t remember what he was wearing, but his teeth game was a beast! Let me start off with the front grill; he had four teeth in his mouth, and two in his back pocket. It looked like someone bowled a spare in his grill, and his lower grill looked like they just finished playing musical chairs. His teeth reminds me of my hometown of Malton, Ontario quite a few black, a whole lot of brown and barely any white.
Anyway, I feel that a lot of people are more offended by some homeless people’s odor and approach, than the fact that they’re begging for change. Furthermore, when someone fights someone that has less power socially, they are always assumed to be a bully. For example, a popular athlete fights a nerd, or a celebrity dissing a fan. So, does a homeless person (or anyone who is at a social disadvantage) have the right disrespect people without being g-checked? I didn’t have any change, but I was more than willing to give him a 2-piece with no fries. But I realized in that situation, I wouldn’t win either which way. But what would you do if you were me? And who was the asshole in this situation? Me or the homeless guy?
